Family Service Sunday

For I was hungry, and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me…whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.”

Matthew 25:35–40

Family Service Sunday

Jesus challenges us to actively love and care for each other; our faith calls us to lives of action and service by which we work to God’s love a reality for those around us and for those we do not know.  The Family Service program began in 2015 as a response to Jesus’ commandment to love one another: a way for families to do the work of the Gospels.

At each Family Service Sunday, Most Precious Blood families gather to complete a variety of service projects that support non-profit organizations in the greater Denver community, as well as those in our own MPB community.  The materials and supplies needed to complete each project are provided at each “service station”.  Families are invited to visit as many stations as time allows, complete a wide variety of projects, and learn about the organizations in our community who work daily to love, support, and care for the vulnerable.

How does it work?

Family Service Sunday begins with a large group gathering in the school gym for a brief theological reflection at 10 am.  Families will then visit the stations where they feel called to serve.  Stations are set up in the Gym and throughout the school – in classrooms and the cafeteria.  Families are invited to take a moment to learn about the organization they are serving before completing the project.  After completing each project, families are invited to hold the unknown person who will receive their particular project in prayer over the coming months.  Families generally have time to complete 3-4 different projects at each event.  It is our hope that these gatherings inspire your family to seek out ways to serve and live our Catholic Christian faith.
