The music group, Chenaniah, provides a combination of contemporary music and praise music. This band consists of piano, keyboards, percussion, guitars, flute, singers, and other instruments, as the music calls for it. Chenaniah provides music every other weekend at the 11:00 Mass and other liturgies as needed. The name Chenaniah comes from the Old Testament and means literally; “established by God”.
We read in 1st Chronicles 15: 25-28, So it was David, with the elders of Israel and the captains over thousands, who went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from the house of Obed-edom with joy. Because God was helping the Levites who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams. Now David was clothed with a robe of fine linen with all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and the singers and Chenaniah the leader of the singing with the singers. David also wore an ephod of linen. Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the horn, with trumpets, with loud-sounding cymbals, with harps and lyres.
Appropriately named, this music group evolved from the Folk Group, which began in the 1970s. Joyful Heart has been joyfully providing music at Masses for many years at St Jude. Joyful Heart most frequently sings/plays for the 5 pm Saturday anticipatory Mass every other week. The music style of this group leans toward the contemporary. The group sings 3 and 4 part harmony, to the accompaniment of piano, drums, guitar, bass, and flutes. If you were to drop in on a rehearsal, you would see the smiles, hear the laughter, and be genuinely moved by the spirit-filled music which Joyful Heart brings with them to each Mass. This group truly provides a “Joyful” Ministry from their Hearts.
The St. Jude Men’s Choir is currently comprised of about 20 exuberant men from the parish, this group sings for Mass 4-6 times per year. To join, you need a desire to sing and praise the Lord, and a willing heart. The group usually rehearses twice preceding a scheduled mass. Check these guys out – you will be moved by their music!
