PASTOR’S POTPOURRI –BE HUMBLE AND GENTLE LIKE ME

Jesus had a lot of big egos in his group of disciples,  With that attitude it would be hard for them to be the kind of people he needed to proclaim and preach the good news.  It is easy to see Jesus talking with them… there are a number of children around,  Jesus motions for one of them to come to him, and putting his arm around the child, Jesus showed the kind of attitude he expected.  In that society, children were greatly loved, but they had no social status.  They depended totally on the goodwill of their elders.  If the disciples were to learn from Jesus and imitate him, they would not be worried about who was the most important.  They would become more like Jesus in their thinking.  Jesus’ attitude was one of service.  “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.”  Jesus himself came “not to be served, but to serve” as he would tell them later.  May we be moved by the Word of God today to remember that we are first and foremost, servants.  Just like Jesus.  (Excerpts from GUIDING LIGHT, 2012.)
