The music group, Chenaniah, provides a combination of contemporary music and praise music. The band consists of piano, keyboards, percussion, guitars, flute and singers with other instruments as the music calls for it. Chenaniah provides music every other weekend at the 11:00 Mass and other liturgies as needed. They also lead praise and worship music during Sunday evening Adoration hours and the Called by the Holy Spirit Ministries Sunday evening Masses. The name Chenaniah comes from the Old Testament and literally means “established by God”.
We read in 1 Chronicles 15: 25-28: 25So it was David, with the elders of Israel and the captains over thousands, who went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from the house of Obed-edom with joy. 26Because God was helping the Levites who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams. 27Now David was clothed with a robe of fine linen with all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and the singers and Chenaniah the leader of the singing with the singers. David also wore an ephod of linen.28Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the horn, with trumpets, with loud-sounding cymbals, with harps and lyres.
Aptly named “Joyful Heart”, this music group, currently with 28 members, evolved from the Folk Group which began in the 1970’s. Joyful Heart has been joyfully providing music at Masses for over 10 years at St Jude. Joyful Heart most frequently sings/plays for the 5 pm Saturday anticipatory Mass every other week. The music style leans toward the contemporary. The group sings 3 and 4 part harmony, to the accompaniment of piano, drums, upright bass and flutes. If you were to drop in on a rehearsal, you would see the smiles, hear the laughter, and be genuinely moved by the spirit-filled music, which Joyful Heart then brings with them to each Mass. This is truly a Joyful Ministry from the Heart.
The Covenant Choir is a group of men and women who lead the congregation in song using a variety of music, including music from previous eras of the Church. Latin chant is a regular part of their repertoire. The name – Covenant Choir – is derived from the many covenants throughout the Old Testament, all leading to the Covenant of Christ. Accompanied by both piano and organ, this group sings most often at the 9 am Mass, every other week. Rehearsals are held weekly on Wednesday evenings..

The Children’s Choir is made up of singers from 2nd through 6th grade. It is a great group for kids to learn how to read music and work on vocal technique. In addition, it is a good way for them to grow in their understanding of the liturgy and the importance of serving their parish. They sing approximately once a month, usually at the 11:00 a.m. Mass.
A recent addition to our parish is the St. Jude Men’s Choir. Currently comprised of about 20 exuberant men from the parish, this group will sing for Mass about 4 times per year, generally for special Masses. To join, you need a desire to sing and praise the Lord, and a willing heart. The group rehearses on the two Mondays preceding a scheduled mass. Check these guys out – you will be moved by their music!
